The Wintzell's Oyster House in Greenville Alabama could easily get a 5 star rating if it wasn't for the service. The food was delicious! I had a cup of gumbo and it was very good. I thought I was in New Awlins!! The crab cakes were thick and fried to perfection. The shrimp and grits was soooo delicious; I had to take me some home! All in all, ya'll, the experience was fantastic. Please, work on the service. I had to wait to be seated, wait to be served, and wait to get my food. Waiting is ok if there's a crowd. There wasn't!! Despite the 2 star service, I am going back just to taste their famous bread pudding. Stay tuned, ya'll!!

We have gone to the Mobile location of Wintzell's in the past and absolutely loved it, but our experience at the Greenville location has us hesitating to ever go back to any of them. Giving it one star because the service was entirely unacceptable. To start with the few positives, my salad was good, and my daughter’s mac and cheese was also quite good. Unfortunately, my husband's salmon was pretty pathetic and a major disappointment. The biggest issue by far was the quality of service, especially since the restaurant wasn't even busy. When we arrived, there was no hostess in sight, and we had to wait several minutes just to be seated. Once we finally sat down, it took our server 15 minutes just to bring us water, and another 10 minutes after that to actually take our food order. All in all, it took about an hour and fifteen from the time we walked through the door just to get our meals. To top it off, after our food was dropped off, the server never came back to check on us. Meanwhile, larger tables came and left during our two hour meal for two adults and one child. We finally had to approach the front bar just to pay our bill. Always our favorite spot to stop when traveling, but this time was much different. We were greeted and seated- ordered our drinks. I ordered the crab claws & hot wings for appetizers. Just mediocre on those. My husband ordered the big ribeye, I only ordered a baked potato. The waitress came back to tell him they didn’t have ribeye in stock, so he had fried catfish. Everything was not as it once was, just mediocre. I don’t think we will ever go back.

I have eaten at Wentzell‘s in Birmingham and Mobile Alabama. Mobile thus far is my favorite Wentzell’s to eat at. We were disappointed with Greenville Wentzell’s. Our waitress, Heavenly, was outstanding, we could not have asked for a better waitress. Patrick biggest complaint was with the fried catfish, no seasonings and one piece was not completely done in the middle. The red beans was mixed with rice that was not completely cooked. I had the Cajun rice, shrimp and oysters and sweet potato fries. For me the seafood was seasoned, the oysters were fried a little too hard, itcould’ve used a little more seasoning, the sweet potato fries were excellent and I enjoyed the Cajun rice..

Saw lots of reviews for 5 and 1 star on this place. So I was intrigued to see what the fuss was about. Turns out there is none. The oyster platter was great, although cheddar isn't a great flavor to pair with oysters. My J.O. friend platter was hit and miss. The shrimp was overcooked and the fish was dry, but the scallops and fried oysters were great. My shrimp poboy was dry and needs some kind of sauce to go with it, but the shrimp on that was cooked perfectly. But the fries that came with it were severly under cooked. My sides of cheese grits and fried ocra were wonderful. So some areas great some very disappointing. The staff were pleasant and attentive. So really id say the price doesn't match the quality is the biggest issue. I'd give it one more shot but would order something different.
